Manchester City’s ground at the time of the First World War, Hyde Road, was temporarily requisitioned by the Army and 300 horses were stabled there.

Featured footballer

Patrick McGuire

Patrick McGuire was born in Manchester. After playing for local side Hurst he joined Manchester City in 1912. Joining the Manchester Regiment in 1915, he played regularly for Grimsby Town during the 1915/16 season. He was killed during the Battle of the Somme in 1916, although it took many months to confirm his death.
