Thomas Benfield

Thomas Benfield played over 100 games for Leicester Fosse between 1910 and 1914. On 6 Sept 1913 he scored the first goal at Woolwich Arsenal’s new Highbury ground. He was transferred to Derby County in 1914 and would later return to play wartime games with Leicester. Benfield served with the Leicestershire Regiment and on the 11 September 1918 he was shot by a sniper. He died on 19 September 1918.
