Tommy Boyle, who lifted the FA Cup for Burnley in 1914, was badly wounded in the First World War and given little chance of playing again but lifted the League Championship for Burnley in 1921.

William Pickering

William Pickering joined Burnley from Scottish Junior football in 1912. A promising centre-forward, he scored 5 goals in 11 games in the 1914/15 season. He joined the 1st Battalion Seaforth Highlanders and served in Mesopotamia, now modern day Iraqi. He was killed in action on 9 November 1917.
