Football steps up to fight

More than 100 years ago, the first 'footballers' battalion' was formed to prove to the country that football could be a significant contributor to the war effort. By the spring of 1915, around 200 professional players with connections to more than 60 present-day Premier League and Football League clubs had enlisted. Help remember those footballers, officials and fans that sacrificed so much by creating a national woodland memorial that will stand for centuries to come.

Working with the British Army Football Association

We are proud to be working with the British Army Football Association to make sure the story of the sacrifice and courage of the footballers who fought in the First World War is never forgotten.

Almost every team in the league today sent players to the Front between 1914 and 1918. Many never returned and those that did were never the same again.
